Living in Australia I have been lucky enough to grow up with horses and my love and admiration for them has never left me. I own and ride horses and am around them every day and I believe this is so important when photographing them as its often the little quirks, the behind the scenes, the unexpected shot that I love the most. My interest in photography evolved from school art classes and has only continued to increase. I learn something new every time I pick up the camera, every event I attend.
Combining my 2 passions of horses and photography for work and then adding in travel means I have the best job in the world. It's taken me all over the world (Australia as well) with some of my career highlights in the the past few years to France and the USA for the World Equestrian Games and Hong Kong for the Longines Masters Show Jumping and in 2019 Rome and St Tropez for the Global Champions Tour.
Each time I travel I learn new tips from the wonderful people I meet. Some of the worlds top equestrian photographers who I have long admired from a far I am thrilled to now consider friends and colleagues. This international experience is invaluable. (for an Australian photographer being so far from Europe/USA the Equestrian superstars and big events just don’t come ‘down under’ for us to gain experience shooting them and their sports).
Some career highlights and amazing opportunities so far have included meeting and photographing 7 times World Champion (driving) Boyd Exell, capturing the queen of dressage Charlotte Dujardin on Valegro and equally amazing Isabelle Werth. Chatting with and watching the hard working Australian Show Jumping ambassador Edwina Alexander competing. Experiencing talent, venues and professionalism on another scale in Europe.
2 months in Europe at the World Equestrian Games in Denmark where Lottie Fry’s Dressage was the highlight this time as well as the Swedish Jumping team & the World Eventing Championships in Italy were amazing and photographing equestrian superstars where I also squeezed in a visit to Burghley Horse Trials (bucket list event) to photograph 2 competing Aussies and London and Valkenswaard Global Champions Tour which take showjumping and entertainment to another level. Great to see how well the Australians who have relocated to Europe are doing and look forward to supporting them at the Paris Olympics 2024.
